FREEZERS
FREEZER FLOORS
To protect freezer floors from damage due to frost-heave
movement, we construct them especially with the recommended
insulation, sub-soil membranes and anti-frost heave systems.
Protective heating systems can be designed using warm air,
glycol or electric heating cables. Consult us about your
options. Smaller walk-in freezers may not require a frost-heave
protection system.

MACHINE
BASES
For manufacturing plants, most large machines require a specially
reinforced base or pit for stability. Sterling Concrete Sawing
and Drilling Ltd. offers comprehensive experience and skills in
this type of construction. Typically the project involves:
- Cutting the existing floor slab
- Slab removal and excavation of soils below
- Backfill with granular fill which is then compacted to
the required strength
- Construction of forming to include the main base and any integral
pits within the base
- Inserting the rebar
- Pour new concrete slab to desired thickness
- Apply surface hardener
- Finish the wet concrete to the required smoothness and
level, as specified.
- Cut control joints where specified
- Allow to cure under controlled conditions for 28 days
- Drill holes for machine anchors.
For some high precision machines, and for certain types of
stamping machines, we will incorporate into the base a system
for vibration dampening to isolate the machine and base from
both horizontal and lateral vibrations. Vibration dampening has
four major benefits:
• Enhance the accuracy and consistent performance of precision
cutting and milling machinery
• Protect nearby machinery from vibratory interference
• Protect nearby structures and foundations from deterioration
due to long-term destructive vibrations.
• Assist in sound deadening for nearby offices and QC
laboratories.
LOADING
DOCKS
Contact us when you need to construct or to modify an
existing loading dock. We can quote turnkey prices for these
projects, or we can work in tandem with your supplier of dock
doors to perform site preparation. Typically, here is what we
have provided in the past for dock door projects:
- Provide an opening by cutting the existing wall,
inserting a lintel and capping the edges of the opening as
required.
- Construct access for trucks by means of new or modified
ramps (above or below grade), safety bollards, trench drains
and paving of the yard.
- Enable transition of loads by constructing a suitable
floor pit and installing a dock leveler with steel angle
surround to protect the adjacent floor inside the building.
Call us if you have and questions or special requirements for
your loading dock design.

the required strength
- Construct forming including foundation base if required
- Insert rebar
- Pour new concrete slab to desired thickness
- Finish the wet concrete to the required smoothness and
level, as specified
- Allow to cure under controlled conditions for 28 days
